Our geography students went on their field trip to Southwold this week, 27 and 29 September 2017. They looked at evidence of coastal erosion, taking measurements and notes to use in their class work over the course of this academic year. Mr Childs reported that the pupils had a great time and were a credit to our school. Well done! Thanks for the Geography department for organising this stimulating outing.
A large group of our new Year 7 pupils came back last Sunday night from a weekend of fun and activities at PGL Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire. Tired but happy they were glad to be reunited with their families after having spent two days climbing, abseiling, kayaking, raft building and generally having a great time. Well done to all for being brave and trying out new things, making new friends and being great Lynn Grovers. Thank you to Mrs Hirst and Mrs Edwards for organising the trip and to all members of staff who accompanied the children.
Lynn Grove pupils had a great time attending a performance of IOU Theatre‘s Rear View, a moving play about a woman’s life. Beginning as what seems to be a life-drawing class the performance then moves to various places around town with the audience is seated in a mobile auditorium. Converted from a double decker bus each member of the audience is securely seated and supplied with a set of noise cancelling headphones. The technology hidden under the seating area supplies a soundscape right from the start – a truly immersive experience.
The play was featured in the Out There Festival 2017 and the pupils were able to enjoy a preview performance. Thank you to SeaChange Arts and Mr Gissendorf for organising this brilliant outing.
Our Garden Club has started again after the summer break. Soon it will be time to get the beds ready for the next growing season but before that it’s harvest time. The pupils and their dedicated helpers had a great crop of fantastic looking onions which were snapped up by members of staff in a very short time. Now they are looking forward to harvesting our apples and grapes. New members very welcome – they meet on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, 6 September 2017, we were excited to welcome our new Year 7 pupils to their new school for the first time as real Lynn Grovers. They were greeted by their form tutors and our prefects. First up was an assembly led by Year 7 progress leader Mrs Hirst. She gave an inspirational talk about having a growth mindset and the power of ‘not yet’. So we don’t say, ‘I can’t do it’; we say, ‘I can’t do it yet’. They all looked top smart and did a great job of finding their way to their lessons. There were smiles all round on the gate tonight as they went home happy if a bit tired.
