Many thanks to Hydra-Mec for having 40 of our Engineers at their open day last month. We had a great presentation and tour of the workshop with some impressive engineering on display. Amazing to know that companies trading globally are so close by!
Two of our students have already been pro-active and secured work experience placements with Hydra-Mec from this visit!
We have a winner! At our open evening last week the calculator in the Maths department competition for the lowest unique positive integer was won by ….. a clever pupil from St George’s school who chose the number 5 which nobody else did. Congratulations, the calculator is on it’s way to St George’s.
We are proud to have been awarded the Young Carer’s tick in recognition of the work our school does to support our pupils who also have a caring role. Did you know that nationally it is estimated that over three quarters of a million children have caring responsibilities for younger or older relatives? At Lynn Grove Academy we believe that it is vitally important to support the young carers in our community. We do everything we can to make sure that they have the help they need to deal with the competing pressures they sometimes face and also to celebrate the contribution they are making.
There are currently major gas works taking place along Lynn Grove, Claydon Grove and The Walk severely restricting access to the school. There is still pedestrian access to the school although one pavement is closed. Please avoid driving pupils directly to the school, unless pupils have mobility issues. We have arranged for the gate that links the school to the Phoenix car park to be opened to allow parents to drop pupils at the end of Mallard Way (please do not use the Phoenix car park) and walk to school via the field, please allow an extra 10 minutes journey time for this route. The Heron Close entrance will be open as usual. We look forward to welcoming our pupils back tomorrow.
On 22 August 2019 our Year 11 leavers came in one more time to collect their results. After a lot of anticipation there was plenty to celebrate.
An impressive 80% of students achieved at least a grade four in English, while 68% achieved at least a grade four in Maths.
Mrs Mobbs said: “We are incredibly pleased with the results achieved and the progress made by our GCSE students this year. They’ve worked incredibly hard to get the best grades they can, and we wish them all the very best for the future.
We’re particularly pleased with the very strong results achieved in academic, creative and vocational subjects, showing the strengths we have across the curriculum and underlining our determination to enable students to “discover what you’re good at”. These results demonstrate the dedication of Lynn Grove teachers to helping our students realise their potential.”
At the start of the summer holidays we had a moment to scroll through our albums to pick out some of the highlights of a very busy and successful year. We hope you enjoy browsing through. As we sign off for the holidays we would like to wish all our community well for the summer holidays and look forward to seeing our lovely pupils back in school on Wednesday 4th September, when we will start at 0830 for year 7 pupils and 0930 for pupils in years 8 9 10 and 11. The school office is open weekdays throughout the holiday to deal with enquiries from 0900 to 1500 (1400 on Fridays).
Our Year 10 geography students had a great time recently studying their local coastline in Southwold. Under blue skies (and with a stiff breeze the next day) they investigated coastal features and collected data for their studies. Our geography department is very pleased with the results and the quality of the work produced by our students being inspired by their field trip.
A group of Year 7 pupils today had a great time taking part in a mini triathlon event for local children run by Triathlon Trust using Phoenix Pool & Gym and our great sports facilities, and supported by Central England Co-operative. It was also the first time for our Year 9 Sports Leaders to take an active part in running a sporting event. Mr Green was very pleased with their work and conduct throughout the day which ensured that everybody had a good time.
Year 7 pupils recently had the chance to find out about all the exciting clubs and extra-curricular opportunities available here. There are lots of different activities available and pupils were enthusiastic signing up to a number of opportunities which will help them to find out what they are good at. Thank you to the Senior Prefects for helping to organise the event. Great to see so many sign-ups; we hope everyone enjoys joining in.
A list of all extra-curricular activities is available on this page.
We were very excited when we heard that Violet and Stuart in Year 9 had won the Creative Education Trust Creative Writing prize as a result of their excellent performance in the London final of the competition. Their prize was to see their script filmed by a professional team here a Lynn Grove. Their friends agreed to take a starring role and you can watch the film here or on the Trust’s YouTube channel.
