Grandparents come to school

It’s been lovely to have our new Year 7 pupils’ grandparents here with us this Tuesday, 5 July 2022. They all got served a nice cup of tea or coffee by our nice student helpers whilst finding out about how to support their grandchildren with their start in high school in September. For many it was a return to a place they’ve seen their own children learn and grow, and a few even remembered their own time here at Lynn Grove.

LGA wins athletics competition

Congratulations to our athletes from years 7, 8 and 9 for winning the Yarmouth schools athletics competition on Tuesday, 28 June 2022!

Over 70 Lynn Grove athletes made their way to the Wellesley, seven weeks of training sessions and after school events culminating in the ‘full day’ competition. There was an individual year group competition, an overall winner’s competition and individual event medals for athletes coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Their spirits were high and as before they supported each other throughout the day and fully engaged in every event. The results are amazing: 72 individual medals, Year 7 came overal second whilst 8 and 9 won their year group competitions. In the end Lynn Grove finished 3 points ahead of Charter Academy and took home the trophy!

Many thanks to everyone in the PE department and everyone who supported the youngsters during their preparation and on the day.

My Family Coach

As a Trust we have recently started working with My Family Coach, a website that aims to help families with parenting challenges. Experienced experts provide advice and coaching based on the latest research.

The site is free to use for parents, and we recommend families sign up to benefit from the resources and support our work here at Lynn Grove Academy.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

With Platinum Jubilee being celebrated across the nation Lynn Grove pupils and staff have been marking the event over the past weeks too. Back in March we planted an oak tree to contribute to The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative with the support of the then Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Cllr. Adrian Thompson. On Wednesday then we held a lovely Jubilee tea party in our library. Pupils and staff enjoyed afternoon tea and games with everyone having a great time and on Thursday our year 10 Food and Nutrition pupils created some fantastic Hampers. Many thanks to the organisers of both events, Mrs. Bowles and Mr. Scholes and the DT team, along with all the other members of staff who helped making these events possible and an enjoyable experience for our pupils.

Year 9 tea Time Athletics

On Thursday, 26 May 2022, at the Wellesley Stadium it was the Year 9 team’s turn at the Yarmouth schools’ athletics competition. With several wins and podium places they accomplished themselves very well. They supported each other, showed leadership when organising themselves for the various disciplines and had a great time enjoying outdoor athletics on a lovely evening. Thank you to Mr. Goddard, Miss Woods and Mr. Parr for all their coaching and help. We are looking forward to the Year 8 and Year 7 events after half-term.

Year 10 Athletics Success

We are very proud of our Year 10 students who this Thursday, 19 May 2022, put together a series of great performances to win the Year 10 athletics competition at the Wellesley Stadium. They cheered and supported each other to the very end. Some competed in disciplines new to them and still won valuable points that eventually brought Lynn Grove the overall win. Well done to all of them and thank you to Mr. Goddard and everyone who supported them.

Last tournament of the season

On Wednesday, 27 April 2022, Miss Anastasiou took nine students from years 7 and 8 to Norwich Rugby Club for their last tournament of the year. The day was filled with rugby coaching, gameplay and learning new skills. The students really enjoyed themselves and even won a few games in the process. Well done to everyone who was involved and thank you to Thetford Academy for lending us some of their players to make up the numbers.

Future Stars at UEA

Year 7 pupils taking part in the University of East Anglia (UEA) #UEAOutreach programme had a great day out yesterday, 25 April 2022, learning about life at university. Having learned about studying at university during last term they had the day to find out what being a student is like. After being introduced to the many clubs and societies as the as the Student Union they had the opportunity to have a go at the climbing wall of the UEA Sport Centre, followed by a tour of the campus which included the visit to a student’s room.

Thanks to the great student Ambassadors showing us around so competently and to the UEA outreach team for organising what was an inspiring day for our pupils.
